Goodwin Dogs from 1890

Mastiff

This full color card was issued 134 years ago by Goodwin & Co. This beautiful card is from a set of 50 cards entitled "Dogs of the World". The front of the card shows a colored artist drawn picture of the dog, while the back of the card has advertising. It is made of thicker card which was originally meant to be used as a "stiffener" to prevent the cigarettes from being crushed. This card was given as a free premium with the purchase of cigarettes. It is one of the FIRST dog cards ever produced! The card measures 2 3/4" x 1 1/2" or 70mm x 40mm. This card has rounded corner. Please see the scan. This is the very first American cigarette card depicting a Mastiff.
